So my latest question from a student was about vibrato. We were on our second lesson and he wanted to know how to create vibrato in his voice. I am of the mind that vibrato comes from singing naturally and freely and with proper support. I am not a believer in forcing a vibrato sound. You need to have time and patience and let your voice find it’s own way. Having said that there are some things you can do to help free up the sound and potentially kick-start vibrato. A very simple exercise you can do is the sound of a police siren woo, oo, oo, oo. The key is not to move the lips each time let the vocal chords do the work. Also doing lip trills or tongue trills can help with getting a nice and relaxed sound. I hope this helps a bit and please remember these things don’t happen overnight but they do happen.
Happy Singing!
